Catholic High School lion dance troupe '公中醒狮团' was established at the year of 1988 by Mr. Leong with numerous dedicated students. Having assistance from Sungai Way Khuan Loke Lion and Dragon Dance Troupe, we trained students of CHS to undergo the proper lion dance trainings. The troupe took part in the 11th Malaysia National Lion Dance Competition and got no. 14. Other than that, in the 1st Genting National Freestyle Championship, we got no. 12 out of 25 troupes, being one of the high-profile lion dance troupe in PJ and among other school troupe. We practice discipline and good moral values within the troupe making the troupe stronger and enhancing the co-cooperativeness between members. Having a number of dedicated and passionate ex-students from the lion dance troupe, it is when we decided to have an establishment of the Old Boys Lion Dance Troupe for Catholic High School. Our main motive is to continue passing on the traditions of good values to the society and at the same time, allowing the old boys to have a place for their interest sustained. The CHS Lion Dance troupe has strongly assister in the fund raising campaign for the previous CHS Sports Centre. Next, we will be raising fund for the Catholic High School Alumni Association building that would be establishing soon in the upcoming Chinese New Year. We strongly encourage the member of CHS Lion Dance troupe to join the Old Boys troupe to not let the flow of passion be broken. Besides being a discipline troupe, our motive is to be a motivator for the students where we would encourage every member to have the courage to reach out and learn new skills that could be used in the troupe. We would also strongly recommend members to be active in all the events and activities in the troupe. For every performance, we would be giving in our best and making sure that every member has a chance to perform and to gain more experience. Last but not the least, the troupe is strengthened by every practice we have and every performance we did, having all members with equal level of passion allows the Old Boys troupe to improve even further and hoping in the near future that we could join the national competitions and continue serving Catholic High School and the society.
On the 6th of September 2009, the Old Boys troupe was officially established by introducing the eye dotting ceremony of the first two lion heads sponsored by YB Fong Kui Lun. The ceremony was carried out during the 46th CHS Alumni Association Annual Dinner and was witnessed by representative from Khuan Loke Dragon & Lion Dance Association, Mr Albert Fong. Here we hope that the passion of members and ex members of CHS Lion Dance Troupe towards lion dancing will not stop and will join us again here in the Old Boys Troupe.
